European Green Capital is an initiative of the European Union. The city of Nijmegen will join the programme for 2018, together with many other parties in the city, and will collaborate with the Provincial Authority of Gelderland and Green Capital Challenges as founders. We are the joint owners, and we are excited to express that in our organisation.
The Nijmegen Green Capital project organisation comprises an administrative and executive section. The administrative section is the Programme Committee, consisting of government, the business community, the knowledge community and a green movement. This committee was formed by Harriët Tiemens (alderman), Michiel Scheffer (deputy), Cathy van Beek (Radboud university medical center and knowledge world), Margot Ribberink (green challenges), Antoine Driessen (Rabo & Economic Council), Sinan Can (BNN/VARA) and Joszi Smeets (Food Hub).
There is also an Advisory Council, comprised of important partners, sponsors, opinion leaders and ambassadors of the green philosophy.
The project office ‘Projectbureau EGC201, led by program manager Michiel Hustinx and project manager Pieter van Ree, was set up for executive purposes, and oversees communication, event management, client relation management and sponsor recruitment for Nijmegen Green Capital. Various ‘producers’ in the city are involved with the Grote Opening, the Green Week and a whole range of major and minor events. The close collaboration among everyone involved is characteristic of our network. That applies now, in 2018, and, as far as we are concerned, for many years to come.
